(2:07) Located in the capital of horse country, The Red Fox Inn is the oldest continuously operated inn in America, dating back to 1728. The stone walls hint to the rich history which includes the bar that was used as a surgeon's table in the Civil War, letters on display from frequent guest Jackie Onassis, and a cannonball embedded in the foundation of one of the guest houses. Sit by the fire, enjoy some of their famous crabcakes, and you'll experience what Virginia Hunt Country is all about. < less

(6:00) Ah, the Manhattan. Named after the greatest place on earth. Its rich amber-red shimmer lights up any dark room. The anticipation of the first sip is high, so high in fact, that hardcore Manhattan tipplers will tell you instantly not only what kind of whiskey was used (rye, bourbon, blended), but what brand.
For our Manhattan, we recommend rye whiskey (try Rittenhouse), sweet vermouth (try its cousin, Carpano Antica), and Angostura bitters. Plop in a marasche cherry rather than the neon-red maraschino cherries, and you have one hell of a cocktail.
The Manhattan pairs perfectly with bacon-wrapped dates. The salty bacon clings to the sweet meaty dates, creating a tantalizing bite-sized appetizer sure to be a favorite at your next cocktail party.

Dates give this cake its character--and make it deliciously moist. Try substituting dried figs or prunes. Serve with whipped cream and--if you really want to get fancy--citrus compote.
