LIVE (wheat and dairy) FREE: THE TIP THAT TIPPED THE SCALES

So there I was, starving at yet another party, standing by the glutinous lactose-filled table of what used to be treats for me.  As my stomach shrank, I watched others fill their plates, recklessly devouring free food.  What was I to do?

I’ll never forget the day my nutritionist gave me the tip that saved me, and one I still apply to this day, despite the fact that I am no longer completely dependant on wheat and dairy free items.  This tip invoked a feeling of both freedom and disgust within me.  It was a bittersweet piece of advice, like a chocolate bar with way too much cocoa in it (that would be over 70% for me).  Ready for the tip?  Ok.  Here it is:

“Before you go to a party, or to someone’s house where food will be served, eat an entire meal ."

Hearing this tip created a big “duh moment” – the complete opposite of an “aha moment”.  It’s so obvious and makes so much sense, yet it had never occurred to me.  Eat first.  Not a nibble, but a meal.  This way you won’t be hungry watching everyone else eat; nor will you be likely to say “screw it”, eat something super bad for you and end up in the bathroom all night.

The freedom I felt came from knowing that I did not have to starve.  The disgust came as I envisioned myself eating all alone before going to a party -- and then arriving full like I had a dirty little secret in my belly.

In any case , I began to eat before going out, and it has made all the difference in the world.

Please eat.  You do not have to starve.  You do not have to suffer as you do without nourishment that works for you.  This tip can help put a little weight back on, too -- if you need it -- thus tipping the scales towards dietary freedom.

Do you have a tip that saved you?  Please post your comments, stories, ideas and opinions here.  If you need help navigating the buffet table or filling it with delicious, healthy wheat and dairy free items, check out Doctor Meg’s website at www.DeliciousAndHealthy.com .
