CORKAGE: What I’m Drinking Tonight: Amaro Nonino
by dalecruse

Recently I’ve been enjoying a wonderful after-dinner drink: Quintessentia Amaro Nonino.
This bitter digestif from the Venezia region of Italy combines herbs, roots, flowers, bark, and citrus peels in neutral spirits. Specifically, this one contains cereal alcohol, grape acqua vitae aged five years, roots of gentian, saffron, rhubarb, sweet orange, bitter orange, quassia wood, tamarind, galenga, licorice, cinchona. It’s thick, syrupy, and good for your stomach! Sign me up!
Each of these gorgeous 750ml bottles features aromas of fresh herbs and flowers. Alpine fresh spice and succulent flavors on the palate with a very deep and lingering finish.
I like it with one ice cube, but I really want to try it with a slice of orange also.
Drinks are on me!

1/2 oz. dry vermouth (we use Noilly Prat)
1/4 oz. Amaro Nonino
1/4 oz. maraschino liqueur (we use Luxardo)
orange peel, ... more >
